A Certified Specialist in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics

"That's nice, but what does that mean?"

Well, let me tell a Certified Specialist in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, I am first and foremost a dentist. However, I have also completed additional years of post-graduate training and passed both an oral and written fellowship examination administered by the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (RCDC). The RCDC's mission is to maintain the high standards of specialty education, practice and certification for the recognized dental specialties. Orthodontics is my sole focus of dental practice; it is my passion.

What else? I like being an orthodontic specialist and seeing the positive effects of working with patients to create smiles and improve overall well-being. I like to play a part in the growth and development of patients from when they are children to (driving!) teenagers to adults. I enjoy following families as they change over time and in sharing their experiences as they pass through key milestones in life.

A little background information may also helpful if you are choosing and orthodontist. My life started in Calgary where I lived for 25 years. In that time, I graduated from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Science in Cellular, Molecular and Microbial Biology. (In other words, I studied the small stuff of this world...actually the microscopic things.) After that, I completed a Master of Science in Biochemistry, also at the U of C. (So I might know a little bit about magnetic resonance and an important calcium binding protein call calmodulin).

After getting married, I moved to Cleveland, Ohio where I completed dental school (Doctor of Dental Surgery) at Case Western Reserve University and my orthodontic specialty training (Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics and a second Master of Science degree) at Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Fast forward to today and I've been living on Vancouver Island for over fifteen years. In that time, I have learned a lot of things about my work that you can't pick up in school. My job has also taken me to many parts of Canada including underserved communities in this cold nation's high arctic. I have a family with three daughters and enjoy watching them grow, teaching them how to downhill ski and creating memories with them throughout our majestic surroundings.
